A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 16 – Chapter 482

Chapter 482: A Being called Great Demon

Lights rang across the battlefield, and thunder roared loudly. A magically shaped thunder dragon opened its jaws as soon as the dazzling light enveloped the surroundings.

The demon army didn’t have the maneuverability to avoid it. They only knew how to charge forward. Therefore, many demonic soldiers were easily consumed by the thunderous power and died.

It was like a concert of colors and roars. With a power that was impossible for humans, they beat the enemy to death with the murderous intent that they had created. It was as if they were saying that this was what a true sorcerer’s battle was all about.

Mastigius La Volgograd’s courage was incredible. He devoured the demon army with his jaws. And he still trampled on the enemy even when forced to retreat.

It could be said that the demon army, which was outnumbered, was unable to attack Mastigius’ army because of one single general. The sight of thunder wielding his arms on the front lines alongside his soldiers and vice-commanders must have encouraged those around him.

Everyone in the demon army began to fear the sorcerer named Mastigius. He fought battle after battle, and his magical powers never ran out.

If it went on like this, the human army could’ve been victorious over the demon army.

The sorcerer Mastigius was that much of a threat.

…If only the magical devilish being hadn’t shown himself. Everything would’ve gone well.

「…Oh, oh. What a sight. It’s a pity you were born a human. 」

The magical devilish being, Poisonous Junelva, relaxed his bird-like face in a satisfied manner and stared intently at his prey with the eyes of a bird of prey. He grabbed his prey by the neck with his feathery hands. Blood was dripping from his prey, and although it was still breathing, it was already unconscious.

Yes, he was still breathing. Junelva couldn’t help but marvel. With the exception of Altia, the man before him was undoubtedly the greatest sorcerer.

「Gah…Ah…」

However, that didn’t mean he was a match for a magical devilish being. Mastigius was wounded all over its body and bleeding, but Junelva only had a few scorched marks on its feathers.

But even so, Junelva thought it was worthy of praise.

It was impossible for a human to inflict even the slightest injury on a magical devilish being, who was essentially a disaster.

Just as a sword was useless against a typhoon, or just as a person couldn’t withstand a flood. The fact that this sorcerer was able to inflict a wound was proof that he was no longer in the human realm and was closer to being demonic.

In other words, this sorcerer contained within him a mystery that had been passed down since the age of myth. For example, something like a precious sword created by a god, or the majesty of a hero.

Junelva laughed heavily with his beak. It was a bright smile, not a mocking one.

Perhaps, even after Altia’s death, humans hadn’t forgotten their fear of the Great Demon and magical devilish beings. That’s why they created heroes, honed their magic, and carefully crafted techniques to resist demons.

Considering that Altia was the only one who could hurt magical devilish beings in the past, this outcome could surely be seen as progress.

That’s why Junelva laughed loudly, then moved his beak in disgust.

It was an expression of annoyance. One could even say that he was disgusted. It was a different kind of admiration for Mastigius, in order words, it was contempt for the human race.

Yes, he was the greatest sorcerer of all time. There was no doubt about that. To put it bluntly, even he was no match for a magical devilish being.

How pathetic. After hundreds of years, humans still couldn’t even lay a finger on a magical devilish being even after what Altia had accomplished in the past. And yet, they continued to enjoy peace for so long. Weren’t most of the humans alive today like the flying insects that gathered on Altia’s corpse?

Junelva found this repulsive to say the least. It was because he had been defeated before, and there was only one human he respected. He couldn’t help but see the insignificant humans as ugly.

Junelva had always hated humans, but the feeling running through his body now was something greater, yes something other than disgust.

「Lord Junelva, is everything alright? 」

A man who seemed to have the epitome of human ugliness called out to Junelva. Junelva could barely distinguish between human voices, but he knew who it was from its nasty attitude.

「It’s you. I don’t have time to waste on a place like, so disappear from my sight if you don’t want to die. 」

And do you remember who brought me here because it couldn’t withstand this sorcerer’s army? Junelva spoke with a heavy voice, rolling his bird of prey eyes. His gaze alone was so irritated that it felt like it could pierce that human’s skin.

But even so, Kiel Bazarov smiled strangely and spoke.

「It is as you say. I can’t even refute it. That’s why I’d like to have an opportunity to recover from my failure. 」

「Huh? 」

Junelva opened wide his eyes to see Kiel, who continued to hold an arrogant demeanor…On that moment, the cries of numerous birds pierced Junelva’s ears.

It was proof that those birds were there to report on something. Several of them spoke in a unique language, and one of them summarized the story to Junelva.

「…Report, report! A new demonic manifestation has appeared in Bolvat’s capital! A demonic manifestation has appeared! 」

Not only Kiel, but even Junelva, who had been showing signs of irritation, showed a shocked reaction to that report. Junelva’s feathers rustled slightly, and his blood vessels leaped up.

A demonic manifestation has appeared. Was it a magical devilish being? Was it something else entirely? Junelva muttered honestly to himself.

Simply put, magical devilish beings were those who possessed Original Texts. They were able to distort even the laws of this world with their unbridled desires and powerful magic. They were creatures who used their own spiritual worlds to invade the real world.

The one who brought those demons together and gave them the Original Texts to create evil creatures was the Great Demon, who was once a god. Many demonic creatures were created by the Great Demon.

But there was no way that Vrilligant in his current state would have the resources to create demonic creatures, much less a magical devilish being. As a magical devilish being himself, Junelva understood that better than anyone else did.

That being said, it was hard to imagine that demons would have arisen naturally in an age when magic was so scarce. So there was only one answer.

His beloved, the magical devilish being Rabel, must’ve used her Original Text. It was the most likely possibility. Even Junelva didn’t fully understand Rabel’s Original Text. However, it was highly likely that she, who controlled the effect and destiny, was the cause.

「…I guess there’s no other way. Hey, you. 」

Junelva returned his gaze to Kiel emotionlessly. It was a look of contempt for something truly insignificant. Kiel received that gaze as if he was used to it.

「I don’t know what’s going on, but I can’t spend one more minute here. So, do as you like. 」

Junelva threw Mastigius out of his way and raised his large wings. He no longer had any interest in this place. He flew through the sky with his kin without any regard for the battlefield.

The state of the battlefield that was left behind was appalling.

A third of Mastigius’ troops, who continued to fight bravely against the demon army, were dissolved by Junelva’s poison. With no time to retreat, many sorcerers and demon beasts were killed as they were engulfed in a wave of poison that spread from person to person.

Almost no corpses remained. The stench of rotten flesh and the strange smell of burnt bones continued to linger on the battlefield.

And so, only three sorcerers continued to hold the front line.

Sorcerer General Mastigius and his vice-commanders, Hind and Eileen. They were no longer safe either. Their flesh and magical powers had been crushed by the magical devilish being Junelva. It was a miracle that they weren’t killed.

And so, this battlefield came to an end.

The first battle of the Great Demon War. The clash between the demon army and humanity ended in defeat for the humans, due to the presence of just one magical devilish being.

The Mastigius army, Bolvat’s main force, was half-destroyed, and the Sorcerer General Mastigius was also taken prisoner.

The Bolvat Dynasty had lost its major resistance factor, and it was said to have fallen completely to evil.

News of this outcome was delivered to the Great Holy Church, and then, to the New Gharast Kingdom, led by Philos and Matia.

  1. Well, it wouldn’t be strange if the war ended right here and there, considering the vast power difference. I wonder how humanity will hold on from now on.
    Thanks for the chapter.
