Chapter 435: The Heavenly Giant Beast
Further east from the Gharast Kingdom were the independent, free cities. The entire eastern part of the continent was under the control of the wizarding nation of Bolvat.
Perhaps it had that specific name because it was the place where sorcerers were born and died.
In this land that had inherited a strong magical culture, it could be said that magic itself was deeply ingrained in everyday life. It sort of because an inseparable part of society.
Magic, which was often treated as a foreign element in other countries, was nothing more than a good neighbor in this region.
Stone infused with magic by sorcerers illuminated the night radiantly. Wounds that couldn’t be healed by standard medical techniques were completely healed in the name of magic.
The level of magic in the Bolvat Dynasty was so great that even the Great Nation of Gharast couldn’t compete with it. Nobody couldn’t find a comparable existence. Because of this, sorcerers, and other magic wielders, often referred to other countries as savage nations.
However, magic didn’t solve everything. No matter how glorious magic could be, not everyone could benefit from it. A huge gap between magic wielders and non-magic wielders was endless since magic was something sacred and respected.
Their intolerance towards something unconnected with magic was on another level. They regarded magic as supreme since it was the symbol of their nation and region. Therefore, it was probably the biggest reason why they weren’t on good terms with the uncivilized nation of the Gharast Kingdom.
The greater the magical light, the more unable they were to look at anything else.
However, that light of glory began to show an unprecedented darkness in the face of a terrible catastrophe.
「Ahh. I’m hungry…I’m truly hungry. But living means being hungry. We live because we’re hungry. We won’t desire to live if we keep getting full, right? What do you think? Don’t you agree? 」
The words came out of someone’s mouth as if they were thrown away. The person who spoke was a large man. But he wasn’t human.
His face was covered in feathers, and his mouth had a beak that could swallow an entire human head. His arms looked like wings that had strangely deformed.
With the weird movements of his wings, he grabbed the head of the human in front of him. He kept asking what the human thought of it. The human woman didn’t answer. No, it would be more accurate to say that she didn’t have energy left to respond.
She had no arms. It wasn’t something congenital. In fact, she had painful scars that proved her arms had been torn off. Although she had coughed up a lot of blood, she never lost her consciousness.
She also didn’t have legs. It was the same as her arms. Her limbs were forcibly torn off. She should’ve died or become unconscious.
And yet, she hadn’t lost her sanity. A peaceful death would no longer arrive for this woman.
Was this unfortunate because she was a sorceress?
Or perhaps it was the influence of the poisonous Junelva…a demonic being who had the form of a large bird. However, it was a fact that that woman was Junelva’s toy.
Junelva sighed at the lack of an answer. His beak casually ate the flesh of the woman’s shoulder. The woman responded for the first time in a while. It sounded like a sob or a scream.
「Guahahah. It’s amazing. It makes me laugh. I shall praise you. It was unthinkable back in Zebrililith’s time that a human could do something like this. 」
After saying that, Junelva looked up at the horizon. One of the five major cities from the Bolvat Dynasty. The city was now covered in a pale green glow.
A large-scale magical barrier. One of the spells within Boundary Magic. Something that separated a sorcerer from its enemies. It was like a shield that promised absolute protection. The sight of that barrier completely covering the city was quite spectacular.
Even if people from other countries were to use magical barriers, they would only be able to cover their own surroundings and personal space. It was impossible to do the same thing for small villages. The reason why they were able to do this much was due in part to the Bolvat Dynasty’s quest for magical wisdom.
Of course, it came with a price. If it continued to be maintained, that magical force would probably exhaust all the human lives in the city.
But if this barrier didn’t exist now, the entire city would’ve become a feeding ground for Junelva. So it was a small price to pay. At least they would die with dignity as human beings.
The elite soldiers sent to kill the demonic beings were now being used as food for Junelva. They had no idea what the consequences would be.
For humans, fighting for their ideals meant everything even if they were to spill blood from their bodies. Junelva was undeniably surprised. Considering the inertia of humans in the past, Junelva couldn’t even imagine that humans would have the will to fight against demonic beings.
Junelva displayed his bird of prey’s eyes and looked up at the sky. A slight shadow was visible.
「Well. It’s amazing that Altia was able to do this much by herself, but that’s all. 」
Without hesitation, Junelva breached the woman’s intestines, which he had been playing with until now, with his beak.
The woman’s blood and flesh burst out, and the intense pain of her intestines being literally eaten alive crawled through her body and mind. It felt like all of her five senses were being crushed and destroyed by that tremendous agony. The painful stimulus was so big that it robbed that woman of her human senses.
However, that woman also had her own will. She was a sorceress after all. She was proud and glorious. Therefore, she was waiting for the last moment when her enemy would let his guard down.
「Ah, gah…he…hey. I’ll…ki…kill you…! 」
It was more like a curse than a spell. Junelva aimed at the woman’s open mouth, but her blood flinched. Her blood changed shape, transforming into swords and spears.
It was the element on which magical power could easily pass through was blood. Blood had been connected to the magical power of sorcerers since birth, and it knew its characteristics more than anything else.
The woman’s blood hardened, and with a furious murderous intent, she jumped to kill Junelva. It was fine for her. She knew that she was about to die.
Those blood weapons were created with a dark curse.
However, even though they were bravely swung, not a single piece of them pierced Junelva’s body. They just melted away.
No, it was not just blood that melted away. The woman’s skin, teeth, bones, and organs. They all melted away. The woman finally lost consciousness, unable to scream any longer.
She faced her long-awaited death while being engulfed by an indescribable feeling that turned her entire body into boiling water. She couldn’t even tell if she felt pain or not.
The woman saw it in the sky just before her death. And so she died, speechless and in despair.
「His Majesty the King has finally arrived. It can go back to his beloved Rabel early today. 」
Junelva looked at the sky, ignoring the woman who had her body dissolved.
What Junelva saw were large wings that seemed to cover the huge sky. The sunlight was consumed by its giant body, and night fell quickly. And those were Junelva’s thoughts, one of the few who made the sky his home.
…The Heavenly Giant Beast. The Great Demon Vrilligant.
The dragon roared. It was pursuing the heart he once lost. As if he was insulting himself for being chased away from his position as the ruler of heaven.
It was now a threat. A dragon’s breath could easily kill a human. Humans didn’t have the strength to fight in the face of someone who was truly powerful.
A sound was reverberating. It was the sound of collapse from the city’s magical barrier.
The majority of humans were killed by the impact, and even those who escaped this instant death became convinced of their fate. There was nothing humans could do in the face of this great catastrophe.
Great Demons and Magical Devilish Beings. In the face of these disasters, iron swords, holy arrows, and even great magic, all lost their meaning. There was no point in using a sword against a flood, just as there was no point in shooting an arrow at a storm.
Therefore, the fate of this city had already been decided.
Just like it happened with the impregnable Suzif Fortress when it fell in the face of the Bastion Beast Zebrililith. No miracles, no mercy, no salvation.
On this day, one of the five major cities of the Bolvat Dynasty disappeared in the face of disaster.
Houses, the walls surrounding the city, sorcerers, and even non-sorcerers. All of them were alike. They disappeared overnight.
Vrilligant was the counterpart of Zebrililith, who devoured everything on earth.
Due to the existence of this evil dragon, the Bolvat Dynasty and the entire eastern region of the continent lost their absolute faith in magic.

What an awful death… Lugis is supposed to fight that thing? Or will Altia actually do something useful for once?
Thanks for the chapter.

what a bummer, the sorceress and her nation seemed like they’d go down fighting gods with dignity in the final fight. Legends deserving of respect… but Lugis didn’t get to witness their final moments
