A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 14 – Chapter 405

Chapter 405: Scattered Things

A gaze had power from the very beginning. Someone else’s gaze could sting one’s skin, to the point of feeling pain, ache, and immense heat.

A strong gaze could grab a person to its own world. It was believed that it had power in itself. In the mythical age, a single gaze could’ve taken a life away. Evil eyes. Those eyes had such power.

Even ordinary people talked about such tales. If true, how were those evil eyes?

The Gharast Kingdom’s Royal Palace. At the throne room.

The magical devilish being Drigman opened his brilliant eyes and pierced Queen Eldith with his gaze. Her curse was writhing in his palm. The black mist cracked open as if letting a sob.

There was a quiet anger in Drigman’s fierce gaze. Although he was close to Eldith’s nature as an elf, he was irritated by Eldith’s actions, who was trying to strip him of his fangs.

What was happening? His eyes gave the answer.

Even though they were members of a similar race, why was Eldith on the human’s side? Drigman narrowed his eyes as his emotions heated up. His gaze became more ferocious, burning Eldith’s cheeks. It had a strange pressure that seemed to stop the flow of her blood.

However, Eldith’s blue eyes were shining even more mysteriously. Drigman’s eyes became distorted, becoming more ferocious. Tightening her neck muscles and baring her teeth, Eldith pushed away the demonic being’s pressure.

Well, maybe that kind of thing didn’t even bother her. There was only one emotion writhing in Eldith’s heart right now. And it was fiery.

…You see, you’ve done a great deal of injustice.

Eldith felt the heat of the curse leaving her fingertips. The enemy’s blessings ate away her own curse. It happened before her eyelids blinked.

That was something that couldn’t happen in the first place. Eldith’s blessing, which was favored by the Great Spirits, was something that couldn’t be completely erased. Unless it was done by those with power equal or superior to her.

Her intuition. It felt bad. That was her honest opinion. At least that was what Eldith’s reason told her. The momentary attack and defense exposed the difference in ability between herself and this enemy. She understood that she couldn’t compete with that thing if she faced it head-on.

However, fortunately, the enemy’s interest shifted away from Lugis. Eldith was able to do the bare minimum of distracting him while Lugis closed the gap.

Yes, that was the bare minimum. Originally, Eldith was supposed to use her curse to bind the enemy’s limbs.

Oh, how was this not an injustice? Eldith bit her lips, opening her blue eyes and making her blood flow go faster.

Eldith was Lugis’ master. If so, then he must fulfill his role. As a knight, Lugis was swinging his arms and running his legs to crush the enemy. But was it okay for his master to be so useless?

So how could she guide him with pride? As a knight, Lugis was naturally worthy. Their relationship was a sort of contract in a way.

Oh, and for elves, contracts were absolute.

Eldith tilted her arm and her eyes widened. Her long ears trembled and convulsed as if they were numb. Ahead of her vision, the blackness of her curse was shattered into pieces, and the ground shook in response.

The black curse burst right in front of my eyes. My feet hadn’t touched the ground yet. My vision got distorted with dust and blackness, and I couldn’t even see what was happening anymore.

But my skin told me exactly what happened. There was a demonic being beyond my sight.

I tilted the tip of my sword in the air and let my arm do its job.

The moment my feet touched the ground, my elbow snapped, and I swung my blade forward. The soothing sound of iron cracking the sky caressed my ears.

What I felt from the tip of my blade was the feeling of biting flesh and crushing bone…and then, at the tip, there was a strange texture.

It was hard. It didn’t even move. For some reason my blade couldn’t advance. I stopped just before I could pierce the demonic being’s heart. Why?

No, that was not it. To be exact, it wasn’t the treasure sword that stopped. It were my arms. They were fixed to something.

What was that something? A voice came from beyond my vision.

「I got you. 」

It was a scary voice. My spine quivered and I felt that I was in danger. My viscera was trembling, my blood was getting cold, and my breathing stopped. Dust was scattered in the sky, and Drigman could be seen grabbing my wrist.

My arms were entangled in his power that controlled distance.

I heard an unpleasant sound the moment I realized this. A very, very unpleasant sound. I cleared my throat.

Then, it came the shock.

The impact was so strong that it seemed as both arms had exploded. My arms felt like they had been shattered.

An intense pain emerged when the nerves pierced through the flesh and were forced out to the outside world. Were the bones breaking and the flesh splitting? Or was the flesh raging and making the bones creak? I couldn’t even tell anymore.

I felt dizzy. For a moment, I couldn’t even tell if I was conscious or not. I could clearly see that my brain was acting abnormally due to the raging torrent of painful stimulation.

What was going on? My wrist was grabbed by Drigman. So what happened afterwards? I forced my eyes to open.

The impact was so strong that I thought everything was torn to pieces, but luckily both of my arms were still there. But that’s just it.

Of course I didn’t have any strength left. The tips of my hands seemed to be stiff as they gripped the treasure sword, but I was unable to move. The treasure sword didn’t even twitch in front of Drigman’s attack.

Drigman’s palm opened, and I realized that it was aimed at the nape of my neck.

「This is your end. You can curse your bad luck, Lugis…」

Bad luck. I had no idea what that meant. Was this guy’s Original Text that grabbed me by the wrist? Or was it just a bad luck? Perhaps he was referring to the fact that I was born in this era.

Well, it was true that my life was full of thorns. There was no way that I’d believe that I was born due to the alignment of good stars. If I were fortunate, how could I live a miserable life crawling on the ground?

But what about bad luck? Was I that unlucky?

Both of my arms felt hot, as if they had a fever. After my bones and flesh were broken and I lost all sense of feeling, all I felt was my heat. For a moment, I let out a sigh. My ears listened to my own haunting voice.

「…Luck is just a word, Drigman. 」

For a moment, the stone floor shook. The earth, which was supposed to be strong, twitched as if it were starting to sprout, and then exploded in the blink of an eye. Trees rose as deadly stakes.

They rushed straight towards its prey and pierced it without any hesitation.

…Drigman’s limbs and torso were being eaten by the tree stakes, and he was groaning.

Drigman was clearly confused. His ferocious eyes widened, and his thoughts flew far into the distance at a situation he couldn’t comprehend. It was as if he was asking himself what happened.

His body, pushed up against the stakes, was now swaying in the air with his legs slightly floating in the air. Oh, how I wanted this moment so badly.

I rotated my hips. My arms were now shattered and unable to move. But they were still connected to my body. My hand was tightly grabbing my sword. All I had to do was force it to move.

The scream of my bones collapsing from the inside echoed. I had the feeling that I was doing something that I shouldn’t have done. But if what I gained was the demonic being’s heart and the loss of my body, then that would be a great deal. There was nothing better than this.

With both my feet on the ground, I wielded the treasure sword that was buried in the demonic being’s body. Rather than slashing, I swung my arm that was no longer of use. I could feel his gaze piercing my cheeks. But it was already too late.

My movements showed a barbaric and uncontrolled behavior. However, the treasure sword drew a beautiful line as if it had a will…and just like that, it pierced through the demonic being’s heart.

  1. Congrats and all for the MC for being close to ending the arc an all BUT there is still a cute daughter character ready to be saved, an angry soon to be wife, and the possibility of a basement ending where he is tied up and ra*ed(even the sword)
