A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 14 – Chapter 397

Chapter 397: The Best and Worst Opportunity

With a flash of purple light, Velg’s iron-like muscles were torn apart, and the sound of the thick cervical vertebrae being crushed echoed aloud.

A body scream that Velg himself had never heard before. He sobbed as he fell down the road from a slash he had never received before. He probably shouldn’t have run, but there was a reason why he had to.

After a second, the purple light came to the spot where Velg’s skull was before. Velg looked at him while spitting out a hideous amount of blood from his neck.

The swordsman with a vicious appearance in green clothes. It was undoubtedly the one who wanted to kill Lord Drigman. A man whose skills gave off a hint of demonic nature.

Velg felt it intuitively. It was him. The swordsman had to be killed right here.

However, Velg realized his own mortality. He didn’t have much time left with that serious injury. He didn’t think he’d be able to escape from this person.

Should he be stabbed in the back miserably, or should he risk his life to kill this thing? Velg naturally chose the latter and jumped immediately. His hooves clattered loudly.

His physique was huge when compared to humans and crushed the enemies from the sky. It was a skill that Velg was good at. In fact, not many people looked at Velg’s gigantic body and imagined it jumping.

Many adventurers and mercenaries cowered before this and were crushed to death. Velg roared as he raised the stone-axe that was swinging on his waist.

That one swing was undeniably ferocious. It had the power to destroy a small army of humans. How many people were not prepared to die in the face of this?

However, the swordsman said as if he didn’t care about Velg’s skill.

「Are you okay with this, Eldith? 」

Words flew through the air. In the dead land where blood and soil danced, unbelievable and beautiful blue eyes were visible. Velg heard his heartbeat distinctly.

「Of course, my knight. I don’t mind if you leave everything to me. 」

The moment those blue eyes blinked. Velg’s giant body had fallen. It twisted the original laws of physics and was sewn to the ground as if it had fallen on the spot.

The stone-axe shattered due to the impact of the giant body falling down. Velg’s nearly torn neck was violently spitting blood.

At first, Velg didn’t know what happened. Then, he knew what was done to him.

The spiritual arts. They were a blessing or a curse. A mystery that sometimes equated to nature, making it possible to create endless illusions.

But those arts’ essence was of destructive power. That method was to bind oneself to nature and make one identify with it.

A blessing who was once used by the gods to bless the people in exchange for their blessings. One could interpret it as a curse.

Velg felt the pain in the bottom of his molars. What bound him to this earth was the spiritual arts. They were the same arts as the ones handled by his master Drigman. In the barracks earlier, wasn’t there someone who used the same technique to bind themselves?

If there were people who used the spiritual arts, then it was understandable why the humans who were supposed to have been skewered by magical arrows disappeared automatically. As if they were a phantom army.

But why? While tied to the ground, Velg let out a disgusting voice as he adjusted his teeth. There was a presence of evil aura nearby.

「…Why? Are you an elf or a fairy? Either way, it seems you’re not our compatriot. We’re already seeing the age of demons, so why would you side with humans? 」

It was a question, and at the same time, words of confusion. Even though the elves and fairies were somewhat related to the demonic beings, they shook off their hands to join the humans’ cause. From Velg’s point of view, it was an unmistakable betrayal, an act that only raised questions.

Perhaps it was the case in the past, but now there was a powerful Controller called magical devilish being. Why was there a need for magical beings to fight each other? Those words were even filled with sadness.

The Elf Queen spoke to Velg, who was unable to even move his fingertips.

「What’s waiting for me when I take your hand? I wonder if I’ll have a future where I obey the greater demonic being…I’m not going to like it. My dignity will fall forever if I lose myself. 」

The air convulsed as if trembling, and Velg could tell that there was a lot of anger in her voice. It was as if contempt had solidified her words.

As if in tune with her voice, the curse poured into Velg turned into a muddy stream and rampaged through his entire body. It was as if the stream was trying to rip the source of his life.

「Don’t underestimate me, bastard. I’ll never give up on myself again. Until the day I die, I’ll be Fin Eldith. 」

Eldith clenched her fist while saying those words. As if following the Queen’s orders, the curse converged and caused Velg’s huge heart to explode.

The giant body twitched for a moment, but then stopped moving. No matter how it looked, it was nothing more than a dead magical beast.

Once upon a time, there was demonic beast that stared down at an entire region and trampled even the bravest souls. His name was no longer known.

「…I could have asked for his name. He looked familiar. 」

As if taking advantage of Lugis’ murmurings, Eldith took his hand and responded. Her tone was gloomy, which seemed in tune with this dead place filled with blood and smoke.

「If you’re going to remember the names of demonic beasts, why don’t you remember important things too? 」

For example, the right way to treat me. When Eldith spoke naturally, Lugis shrugged his shoulders as a response. It was a brief moment of leisure until the Heraldic soldiers and the elven corps suppressed the enemy soldiers waiting in the buildings on the left and right sides.

No matter how much emphasis was placed on speed, one must not abandon the demonic nature that was known to exist. They’d be dead if they were attacked from behind.

Therefore, they had to take control of this place.

Lugis narrowed his eyes, feeling anxious in his chest. He stared at the royal palace, which was still far away, but was already reflected in his field of vision. A small amount of fire was already starting to blow up from there.

The royal palace. This place, which only high-ranking aristocrats would dare to step into, was being trampled by rough soldiers and demonic feet.

A strong black sword was swung around the luxurious chandelier. In an instant, demonic blood was blown away along with the chandelier, staining the lavish carpet at the floor.

If Richard wanted to buy that carpet at the market, he would’ve had to pay gold coins for it, but in this case, the price tag of that lavish carpet was spoilt. Richard shook his cheeks in mockery. The floor was already smeared with pieces of flesh, blood, and some mysterious demonic body fluid.

「Half of you will stay here to stall the enemy. The other half, follow me. 」

Splitting his forces in half, Richard gripped his black sword tightly and snorted. A bit of a bad feeling was gnawing inside his skull.

This royal palace was, so to speak, the enemy’s main base. It was a place that could’ve been called a central base.

However, despite that reason, the number of demonic beings used for defense was quite small. It was good for them to fight the few remaining demonic beings. Of course, this could also be said to be the result of a successful diversionary strategy. Still, it was going way too well.

Something inside Richard’s skull was ringing an alarm. On the battlefield, it wasn’t always a good sign when things went too well. In fact, in his experience, it was more likely to be a sign of bad things to come.

Right now, they could’ve fallen in a trap without realizing it. Richard had that feeling.

However, Richard didn’t have the option to retreat, not right now. Retreat would be wise, but knowledge was always two sides of the same coin.

There was no other way but to move forward. There was a possibility that now was the best opportunity.

The route inside the royal palace remained surprisingly unchanged. Just as Richard knew it. The path to the throne remained the same. He was once decorated by his great accomplishments in the presence of the previous King. That’s why Richard widely knew the path.

During his journey to the throne room, Richard never encountered any demonic beings. The sound of alarm pounding in Richard’s skull grew louder.

It could be an option if the magical devilish being abandoned the royal palace and joined his forces outside. That would be the extent of its existence. There were many things Richard could do now that he was inside their main base.

However, if that magical devilish being was the only one left behind. It would be the best and the worst opportunity at the same time.

The strong steps of Richard and his men stomped through the throne room. A dull sound echoed around him, and at the same time he heard a voice.

That voice was heavy and low. Richard’s throat was ringing without realizing it.

「…This must be my destiny. I will take it as the voice of God and fulfill my destiny. 」

And thus, the worst kind of death was here.
