Chapter 395: A Timeless Jewel

The morning sun, dyed with bright red, crossed the eastern ridge with dew in its step.

In the royal capital, black smoke began to rise with the sound of devilish cheers. Outside the city where the death snow never withered, soldiers fought to die bravely.

Jewel Bar Agathos stared at the sky. Then, she looked down at those noisy scenes that signaled the dawn’s arrival.

She flew through the air with her jewels and shot down the winged beasts that attacked her. No matter how strong the magical beasts were.

Even if their claws or fangs touched Agathos’ body, they would be unable to inflict any damage.

Every time Agathos swept her fingers away, the heat rays emitted by her jewels devoured the flesh of those monsters.

Agathos knew that something like this was nothing when compared to her power. While she had such thoughts, she temporarily flew high up into the sky.

The feeling of the sky surrounding her for the first time in a long time was extremely cold. Her cheeks got rosy as she remembered the feeling of being torn by the cold wind. But the sky was her original domain.

If the deep-rooted earth was the domain of the Controller Drigman, the boundless sky belonged to Agathos. Agathos opened her pale red eyes as her glittering jewels destroyed the pieces of flesh from those monsters.

She saw from above the human…Filaret, and other people along with the human named Lugis moving along the highway. The only thing they aimed at was the neck of the Controller Drigman.

Agathos relaxed her cheeks and twirled the jewels on her fingertips.

Agathos didn’t believe that Drigman would be defeated. It was impossible for them, mere humans who tried to overturn the events, to defeat a mighty magical devilish being.

However, their actions would buy her time. That time was now more valuable than gold.

In that case, it didn’t matter if it was a human or an elf. It would be over if everything went according to plan.

Under the rising sunlight, her white hair turned slightly red. It was proof that Agathos’ soul was crying out for a suitable body.

However, that time had not yet arrived.

『What’s wrong? Why are you just watching? You are…very strong, you know. 』

It was all because of those weak words that leaked out of her heart. It stirred Agathos’ soul, refusing to disappear. This normally wouldn’t have happened.

Those whose souls were eaten by demonic beings disappeared without any trace. No evidence would be left of the person who was alive. That was normal.

However, why was this weak soul named Leu still alive? It felt strange, like a light that was about to go out at any moment but kept flickering.

Agathos flew in the sky and opened her mouth as she continued to twirl her jewels.

「What? Are you saying to help someone again? You’ve got such a romanticized outlook in your head, you know. Helping others is like a game. How many people can you help with just that will? You won’t achieve anything even if you work hard. Why don’t you just think about yourself? You should live your life more selfishly. 」

Agathos’ tongue was spinning more than usual. It was the result for stirring her soul. She was now speaking while showing her emotions blindly. Agathos didn’t know why, but she could tell that she couldn’t hide her annoyance.

She felt irritation. What was it that bothered her that made her so angry? It was a feeling that never occurred to her back in the earlier days.

After Agathos professed those words, Leu stepped in and spoke from deep within her heart.

『…I see. From your point of view, I am weak since what I do is like a game. 』

With Leu’s acknowledgement, Agathos’ thirst subsided a little. However, that was only for a short moment. Leu continued her words while making Agathos’ heart beat uncomfortably.

『However, I believe that even this game has a meaning if it becomes an opportunity to save people. That’s the only thing I believe. 』

On that very moment. The jewels dancing around Agathos increased their speed in line with Agathos’ emotions. Even though they were shining in various colors, what they truly showed was extreme anger.

Without expressing it in words, Agathos felt the fire in her eyes. She was finally beginning to realize the meaning of the feelings that were sprouting within her.

Agathos hated the girl. She truly hated Leu.

No matter what happened, Leu didn’t want to act for herself but for someone else. Even more than that, she wanted to pray for humans. Agathos had been thinking about it ever since they first met. However, to this day, she still didn’t fully understand it.

Agathos let out a hot breath, which turned into a white mist that disappeared into the sky.

「…Hey. You suffered, you despaired, and you almost died because of those humans, didn’t you? 」

Agathos felt quite shaken when she woke up in this body for the first time. She was surprised that her soul had chosen the body of a human child, but on top of that, it chose a body whose condition was abnormal.

Leu’s fingers and toes were frostbitten, unable to move, and on the verge of necrosis. Her bones and flesh were so distorted that their normal growth was inhibited. Her internal organs, including her lungs, were covered in ashes and dust, preventing her from breathing normally.

How unlucky. That was what Agathos thought at first. It seemed that she chose a human who was once a demonic being’s slave. A slave who was treated very roughly. The reason for the incomplete fusion was probably because Leu’s body and soul were distorted.

Agathos had no idea that her condition was the action of a group of humans who were of her own kind.

However, Agathos still found it difficult to accept.

Her hair, a mixture of transparent white and fiery crimson, swayed in the air, writhing, and crying out.

「Shut up now, Leu. I won’t change no matter what you say. Jewels are unchanging and timeless. Nothing can change me. Nothing can defile me. That’s the way I am. 」

Agathos had firmly decided. She waved her lips after saying those words. Those beautiful lines lifted her cheeks and made her smile. It was the smile a prankster would make when thinking of something sinister.

「…I’ll kill the humans every time you want to live for them. Every time you pray, every time you say a word, every time you decide to save someone. I’ll show you how I kill them. I’ll do it until the day you decide you don’t want to save humans anymore. I hope you’ll live inside of me quietly. I hope one day you’ll say that you’re happy for surviving. 」

Agathos heard Leu say something aloud. She couldn’t understand the meaning, but it was probably frustration or anger. It was clear that Leu’s voice was filled with some sort of emotion. Agathos still smiled brightly.

Humans were ugly beings. That was an unforgivable sin for Agathos. Just as there were people who considered good and evil along with their interests as absolute standards, for Agathos, the beauty and ugliness of the soul was the balance of everything.

Of course, there were some humans who were better looking, like that girl named Filaret and the person who called himself Lugis. Still, they were only a small exception. Despite the beauty of those two individuals, the humans as a whole were no longer a worthy race.

There was no way the race that raised such child was beautiful. Agathos didn’t accept that kind of logic.

Leu would admit her mistake if she had seen more of that ugliness. She wouldn’t save humans anymore.

Thinking it was a really good idea, Agathos twirled her fingers and bounced them through the air. The jewels happily danced around her body.

「First, let’s push the Controller to death. Next…we’ll turn all the humans in this royal capital into magnificent and beautiful jewels. Wouldn’t you be happy, Leu? 」

Jewel Bar Agathos looked happy, and most importantly, laughed beautifully.
