A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 16 – Chapter 512

Chapter 512: The Dragon’s Roar

A line of beautiful obsidian scales stretched out before her eyes. Just looking at them was breathtaking. Each one of those scales was far stronger than iron processed by humans.

Moreover, she could see that its details were gradually taking on a deep demonic quality. It was proof that Vrilligant was slowly absorbing magical power. Once it was full, there would be no fighting only a one-sided massacre.

She had to end this while she could. Jewel Bar Agathos’ cheeks widened as she spoke.

「Hmph. You’re leaving Rabel to that girl. She’s going to fight her on her own. Rabel is no weakling and is surprisingly tough. A magical devilish being is a magical devilish being no matter what anyone says. There’s no doubt that she is a disaster. 」

Agathos spoke with her crimson hair fluttering. Her beautiful lips rippled with freshness.

There was a hidden meaning to her words. Even Agathos knew that she couldn’t afford to focus her strength on Rabel alone. Much less a human being. However, there were times and circumstances that didn’t allow for any other choice.

And that was now. With Vrilligant yet to awaken, Caria had to face Rabel alone at all costs.

Perhaps the old Lugis wouldn’t have left Caria alone with a powerful magical devilish being, even if that action compromised everything else. At least, Agathos thought so.

But things were different with a demon Lugis. That’s why this was a good opportunity. Lugis was facing the Great Demon Vrilligant. He wasn’t an opponent that could be fought with even the slightest bit of regret lingering behind. Well, even if things were normal, it was unclear whether there would be a fight at all.

Lugis spoke after a moment.

「Don’t worry. Caria is both my enemy and my woman. I don’t have an excuse to doubt her. 」

「…I see. That’s fine then. How wonderful. So you know your objective. The goal is the heart. Cut open its chest and take back Filaret. We need to end it before it truly awakens. 」

Agathos didn’t know if Lugis was being serious or not. But he didn’t seem to be lying. Perhaps being transformed into a demon had given him a kind of instinctive boldness.

The jewels danced around Agathos, sparkling with a brilliant glow. Each one was a mass of immense magical power. The jewels began to shine brilliantly because several demons were transformed into gems, as if they were storage.

「Let’s rescue her now. And this is a rare opportunity. You need to kill it soon. Did you hear me, dragon slayer? 」

Agathos expressed her dismay at Lugis’ blatant attitude.

The demonic sword was raised with a dazzling look. There was no strength or skill. He simply raised the sword to his shoulder with both hands and swung it.

…Everything was filled with demonic energy. A flash of purple lightning cut through the air. It killed the distance and ate Vrilligant’s insides.

The demonic sword roared, as if it was rejoicing to eat the flesh of the Great Demon. Vrilligant’s body pulsated slightly. Vrilligant was a living being after all.

Agathos’ eyebrows rose in admiration and irritation for a moment. Then, she picked up Lugis’ body by kicking off the ground and floating in the air. Various jewels were supporting her limbs.

「Hey, what’s wrong with you today? You’re talking a lot. 」

「Maybe it’s because you’ve turned into a magical devilish being, since the way you talk is too indiscreet. There’s no time for stupid talk. If you crawl on the ground, Vrilligant will just lift his tail and crush you, you know. Swing your sword and slash as much as possible. Maybe you’ll die trying…Anyways, I shall give you credit for creating a wound at least. 」

Beautiful obsidian scales lined up in a row. In between, multiple cuts ran down it’s back. Dark red blood spurted out, asserting itself.

The wound was the size of a person, but to Vrilligant it was just a scratch. But that wound in its tough skin was enough for Agathos.

The jewels that surrounded Agathos spun in a circle, praising their master. Her crimson hair flew through the air, and Agathos swung her body wildly. Her limbs transformed from those of a child to those of an adult, and her body also transformed into that of a grown woman.

Her white eyes blinked as she looked down on the world. Agathos’ lips quirked with pride.

「It’s good, Lugis. Even though you’ve become a magical devilish being, you’re doing things that aren’t that different from humans. That authority is also borrowed from Drigman, isn’t it? That’s not how demons fight. It has to be more devastating, more destructive. I’ll show you. 」

With the setting sun at her back, Agathos stretched out one arm and snapped her fingers. The colorful jewels responded, taking on a bright light.

Countless lights focused on Agathos’ fingertips. Her fingers snapped again.

With just that, a torrent of heat rays poured down from the heavens.

Divine and majestic. There were many words to describe this scene, but only one word was sufficient.

Beautiful. The light rain was so beautiful.

It was so large that it was visible to the people and soldiers of the capital, making it a kind of miracle.

That miracle rushed into Vrilligant’s wound. Dust rose up as the dragon groaned, and the mountain rumbled.

「…Complete devastation and one-sided conquest. That’s the true nature of the disaster known as demons! 」

The merciful rain of light burned through Vrilligant’s flesh, opening up its wound. Vrilligant’s outer shell was tough. It wasn’t just physically strong. The dragon’s scales and skin carried a magical faith in themselves.

In other words, of all living things on earth, Vrilligant was the toughest. Only a specific substance could cut it through. Only a holy being or a newly great demon could tear a dragon’s skin.

Agathos didn’t have the strength to easily pierce it. It would take a considerable amount of time to accomplish such feat.

But once it was torn, she could easily push it open again.

The dragon’s blood spurt out. Agathos clenched her fingers. It would be a bit of a challenge to get to the heart from here, but she had proven that it wasn’t impossible to harm Vrilligant.

So, could it be done? Could Vrilligant, who was so powerful, be killed? It actually seemed possible after looking at the dragon now, unable to do anything but exposing its massive body.

Her cheeks rose involuntarily.

Agathos gathered the heat rays pouring from the jewels, formed them into an aurora, and swung them down from the heavens. It was like a hammer. The iron hammer swung down to slay the dragon.

A great cloud of dust rose up, and even the surrounding landscape shifted. Rather than a battle, these seemed more like the work of the gods.

As the rain of light and the iron hammer rained down and the dust cleared, Agathos took a deep breath when she suddenly heard something.

…The dragon’s roar shook the earth and sky.

She shuddered. She felt countless insects crawling up her spine. Lugis was calling Agathos’ name. But for a moment Agathos didn’t hear anything else but the dragon’s mighty roar.

All that remained in her ears was the roar she had heard before, reminiscent of the awe and dignity it brought to her ears.

「…Agathos. If you have no intention of going into a coffin, then bow your head! 」

For the umpteenth time, Lugis called Agathos’ name as he swung his demonic sword. The jaws of a dragon came into view before their very eyes.

It paid no attention to the bird’s protests. It simply exhaled, expelling its breath.

It was no longer a simple heat, flames or blizzard. It was the dragon’s breath reminiscent of a huge catastrophe. The threat that had swallowed up countless demonic powers and erased their existence was now before their very eyes.
