A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 16 – Chapter 509

Chapter 509: Intertwined Demons

It looked like a small hill from afar.

The mountain was colored by obsidian, which reflected the sunlight quite beautifully. Sometimes undulating and sometimes emitting a mist. The mountain almost seemed alive.

Yes, it was alive. Its ferocious eyes were shining brightly as it remained motionless, waiting for magical power to circulate within its enormous body.

Magical power spread throughout its body every time its heart thumped. The magical power around it grew increasingly dense.

Soon it would regain its former form. And then, it would roar once again to seize dominance over the continent and control the demon race. The bronze dragon Shadraput seemed to have a vision of it floating before her eyes.

The Great Demon. Vrilligant, the King of Dragons and one of the three gods.

The feeling of its mighty wings became real even though she was far up in the sky. Shadraput’s relaxed expression tightened at this moment. Even from a distance, she never thought she’d catch a glimpse of that thing again.

「…This is the outermost part of its domain, don’t you agree? It must be from here if you’re going to fall. 」

A height where one could look down on the mountains. Falling from up this height would obviously kill a human. Even the word “suicide” would be too mild at this point. Even most demons would lose their lives.

But the demon held in Shadraput’s arms said in his usual tone.

「This is good enough. All I have to do is fall and get to him. That’s easy. 」

The magical devilish being Lugis even seemed a little amused as he raised his cheeks.

How dare he laugh when he could lose his life in a few minutes, or even seconds. He wasn’t sane after all. That’s why he was able to stand up to Vrilligant.

Shadraput spoke the words that had spilled out of her mind.

「Its foolish to see an ant standing up to a giant dragon. How can you laugh? Death is a miserable thing, you know. You should cherish your life. 」

Shadraput didn’t really understand why she kept talking to Lugis. Since there was no point in holding him back.

But when faced with such an incomprehensible being, she couldn’t help but ask a question or two. Lugis’ way of life was the exact opposite of Shadraput’s. There was no doubt that their souls were far apart.

That’s why she was somewhat interested in his view of life and death. Lugis thought about what to say for a moment and then said.

「Yes, death is miserable. And one day it will surely cling to my feet. So it’s better to live in a way that gives it a grand welcome, don’t you think so? 」

There was no falsehood in his eyes as he looked up at Shadraput. This man wasn’t trying to act tough or anything, he was really saying this from the bottom of his heart. There was no pretense or vanity there.

Shadraput could only think of one thing. Lugis was crazy when he was human, but even as a magical devilish being he was still crazy. Even if humans were a short-lived species, there must be very few who thought like him and actually acted like him.

But, well. Beings who were called heroes were always like that. Thinking about this, Shadraput let go of the body she was holding.

In an instant, Lugis’ body floated softly, then he was pulled down by gravity.

「…Watch me, Shad. I’ll make it happen. 」

Lugis really didn’t ask for anything more from Shadraput. Naturally, he placed the demonic sword on his shoulder and began to fall.

He fell from a height that crossed the mountain, with the wind cutting his cheeks. Shadraput couldn’t help but mutter as she watched.

「…Well, at least I’ll remember your name. 」

The large dragon’s wings slashed through the wind as if in reply. She had no inkling that the Great Demon before her eyes would be defeated by a magical devilish being.

Falling from high up in the sky had an impact that could easily kill a person if it weren’t careful. The pressure of the wind and gravity tangled one’s limbs, which was even worse than being underwater.

Unless one was a winged species, it probably couldn’t move around freely. The sky wasn’t yet the domain of humans.

All a human could do when thrown into the sky was cry in agony and get slammed to the ground.

But the existence of demons remained the same no matter where they were on this continent. After all, they were now a disaster themselves.

Even in mid-air, Lugis slashed through the wind pressure and swung his demonic sword. The demonic sword stuck to Lugis’ hands and followed a trajectory as his will desired.

No matter how violent or absurd it could be, the demonic sword affirmed it and built a theory to make it happen. It was as if it were its role.

「Ohhh…So you’re here to welcome me. 」

Lugis muttered as he took in the wind with his whole body and chewed it in his mouth. The demonic sword bounced as if nodding slightly.

The obsidian dragon had only just awakened. It didn’t have enough magical power to move its entire body.

However, a servant was already there waiting to protect it.

A doll with amber eyes and a bewitching shape. Gear Rabel was there, with both of her legs transformed into demonic legs made of blades.

It was as if she had been expecting an assassin from above. Lugis saw her lips move slightly. She was probably talking about something in her usual tone.

Rabel was perfectly prepared and ready to intercept any attack. To her, shooting down a falling object was like child’s play.

But to Lugis, her existence was no longer in his field of vision. It wasn’t she who should be cut down, but the one she served. That’s all.

The ground was far away. With the Great Demon and Rabel still only visible from afar, Lugis put all his strength into gripping the demonic sword in both hands. The poisonous colors wriggled in response. Lightning leaked out magical power and drew tremendous lines.

There was no sound. Just as expected, the demonic sword swung like a guillotine. His body tore through the wind, creating a beautiful path in mid-air.

Rabel’s eyes were wide open.

…In an instant, a flash of light scattered. The demonic sword bit into the air, spitting out blood and flesh.

At the same time, the Great Demon Vrilligant’s huge body fought, sobbing. There wasn’t a single scratch on its scales, and its beautiful form wasn’t distorted in any way.

But Gear Rabel understood. A slight crack had appeared in the magical power that should’ve begun to pour into his entire body. It was proof that he had been injured somewhere. So where?

It was simple. That sword didn’t touch the strong outer shell but instead closed the distance and wounded the Great Demon from the inside.

Rabel recognized that magic technique. There had once been a monster who closed the distance and tortured and killed everything in its sight.

…Rabel understood everything. And made a decision. This situation wasn’t good.

A sigh escaped from Rabel’s lips as her demonic legs bent. She had a slight regret that she had to cut off that magical devilish being here and now. In fact, she didn’t even know that it could be called regret.

After a moment of breathing, her demonic legs cruelly dug into the ground and flew into the air. They ran through the sky as if they were a winged species, stretching out their demonic legs to rip out the enemy’s heart. Rabel herself was the arrowhead that had been released.

And so, the demonic sword and legs clashed with one another. Sparks lit up the air, capturing the brief moment before they fell.

In that brief moment, less than a few seconds, two voices were heard with a confident tone.

「Magical devilish being Lugis. Thank you for your cooperation so far. I request your immediate withdrawal now…」

「…Magical devilish being Rabel. As you know, I won’t be leaving this place anytime soon. 」

The magical devilish beings clashed, grinding each other down. The roar of the Great Demon Vrilligant was approaching close by.

  1. This new Lugis is really funny and cool. If he does return to being human again, I hope he will keep at least a bit of this personality. I can’t wait to see this Lugis interact with the saintess…
    Thanks as always.
