A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 16 – Chapter 491

Chapter 491: The Great Devil and the Great Sorcerer

The magical devilish being Lugis crushed Nutt. It was no longer a battle, just a body laying down savagely crushed.

Nutt’s body was so destroyed that not even a single piece of flesh was visible. All that remained was blood. The crown Nutt was wearing flew through the air, and with a harsh sound it fell on top of the blood.

Why this had happened was unknown to the people or the demons. A moment of silence engulfed the entire surroundings. Everybody’s thoughts were in complete confusion, and everyone was perplexed.

Kiel was the first to act. He had experienced more than enough unexpected situations.

Things never went the way he wanted them to. Things often didn’t go well. Kiel knew that well.

He adjusted his glasses back on his ears and quickly turned back. He needed to leave the execution grounds, quickly. He wouldn’t be able to escape if he stayed there.

Kiel mounted his horse, leading the reserve forces he had prepared in case of an unexpected event.

After all, his opponent was the magical devilish being Lugis. It was different from the surviving soldiers who had thrown their lives away and charged forward. If Lugis wanted to, he could kill everyone there, humans and demons alike.

One of Kiel’s subordinates showed an anxious gaze. He had a clearly frightened look in his eyes.

「Ah, Lord Nutt…was killed by a demon…What’s this? What’s going on? 」

His thoughts weren’t focused. It seemed as if he had simply followed Kiel’s back. Kiel said, clenching his fist.

「I don’t know. All I know is that we screwed up. Let’s hope Junelva won’t kills us. But there’s a high possibility that we’ll get killed for letting Nutt die. 」

「That’s foolish! We were up against a magical devilish being! There’s no way we could’ve won against him! 」

In truth, Kiel didn’t know what Junelva would do. But if he didn’t say this, his subordinates would’ve stab him in the back.

Kiel was surprisingly calm. In fact, deep down, he knew this would happen.

After all, Mastigius wasn’t the kind of person who would die from something like this.

Kiel spoke as if to convince his subordinates. His pale skin distorted and moved.

「Don’t panic. There are always mistakes and failures in everything. That’s what happened this time too. I’m used to it. 」

Kiel could imagine what would happen to the royal capital from now on. The people under Mastigius would gather and would be in conflict with the demons. Great confusion and unrest would cover the entire royal capital.

It was easy to imagine what the magical devilish beings Junelva and Rabel would do at that time. The confusion caused by their conflict would lead to further rampage, and rampage would bring about destruction.

If there was a role for him to play, it would be there. He had no choice but to stab them in the stomach when that conflict reached its peak.

If he did that, the country would finally become hopeless.

All Kiel wanted for himself was for this royal capital to function as a means to destroy the nation known as the Bolvat Dynasty. Everything else was of no concern to him.

「…Listen, I’m leaving the royal capital now. It’s simple. If you’ve crawled once, you can stand up again. 」

What came into view was the magical devilish being Lugis. And the pitiful corpse of Nutt, fully crushed by him.

The demons were more shaken than humans when they saw this scene. The demon who was supposed to be their ally had turned against them. How should they interpret this?

Should they treat him as an enemy? But they couldn’t defeat a magical devilish being.

Should they run away? That would mean that they would be killed by Junelva later. Junelva hated weaklings who ran away more than anything.

Suddenly, Lugis looked down at the demons from the execution platform. As if obeying a sense of duty, the demons naturally surrounded Lugis and the human soldiers. The citizens were pale and frightened, but they were unable to escape too.

As no one could take a step forward or a step back, it was the magical devilish being who spoke first.

「What’s the matter? If you want to run away, then run away quickly. I hate bullying the weak. It’s pointless. And most of all, it’s stupid. 」

Lugis said as he casually placed the demonic sword on his shoulder and yawned. The demonic sword sucked up Nutt’s blood and wriggled as if smiling at its master.

Lugis raised both eyebrows after stroking the blade of the demonic sword.

「…So just get away. You guys don’t want to die either, do you? 」

With that, Lugis helped Mastigius get up to his feet. He no longer seemed to have the slightest interest in the demonic beings surrounding him.

His interest wasn’t directed at anyone other than Mastigius. Other people probably didn’t really matter to him either.

With the demonic sword still on his shoulder, Lugis casually showed his back to the demonic beings. The demonic beings throats rumbled. Their senses became sharper.

They wondered if they could kill him now. Maybe Junelva wouldn’t kill them if they took an action.

It was unclear whether it was the arrogance shown by Lugis that motivated them, or their fear of Junelva.

But it was true that most of those present used their fangs and claws to strike the magical devilish being.

…There was no need to say what would happen to the demons that bore their fangs at the demonic being that was a living Disaster. They were simply crushed, and more pools of blood appeared at the execution grounds. That was all.

After a moment of silence, only the corpses of beasts and demons remained.

Seeing this, the citizens, who had been silent in confusion until then, let out cries of joy. Some even shed tears. It had been a long time since the citizens had spoken from their hearts.

Lugis had saved the life of the Sorcerer General Mastigius and had even killed the demons. The citizens saw this as a heroic act.

Lugis was an ally of the humans, of the citizens. He must have snuck among the demons and waited for an opportunity until now. And now, he was the savior who had appeared to save humanity, to save them.

The military officer Oilland and the soldiers who were supposed to be executed after Mastigius understood this. Everyone raised their voices and enjoyed the moment of joy. The cheering was rampant.

Only three people noticed the truth in a place where a drop of hope spread like fire.

In other words, Sorcerer General Mastigius, and his vice-commanders Eileen and Hind.

「…Lord Lugis. First of all, let us rejoice at our reunion. But what happened to you? Can you tell us what happened? 」

Lugis’ appearance was too demonic to be called heroic.

His crimson eyes were darker than blood, and his demonic sword rang horribly. The state of the sword was probably influenced by Lugis’ transformation. It was common for magic tools to be influenced by the nature of their owner.

After being released from his restraints, Mastigius finally stood up on his own two feet, and Lugis spoke to him.

「You’re talking like you know me. Nothing has happened and nothing has changed. I’m the same now as I was before. 」

The magical devilish being said, lowering his demonic sword from his shoulder and laying it down. Lugis looked at Mastigius’ face and said the following words.

「It’s not like I’m on your side. But those guys are no better than you. There’s no point in taking sides with worthless people. Am I right? 」

It was such a fleeting statement. Mastigius thought so. After all, he wasn’t his real self. Not only was his demeanor and mannerisms different, but he wouldn’t have said something like this if he were himself.

It seemed like there were gaps in his memory.

「…Lord Mastigius. I still have a lot of questions, but I think we should unite the people and the soldiers now. 」

Nodding in response to Hind’s words, Mastigius asked himself what he should do next. Though he and his soldiers had been given a slight reprieve, he had no longer the advantage.

There was no telling when the enemy would attack again. Lugis had changed, and there was no guarantee that he would remain an ally. Their fighting power was still insufficient. Their position was too fragile.

Mastigius narrowed his eyes, tightened his lips, and made up his mind. At the same time…

…In the midst of the execution grounds, drowning in cheers, a demonic being appeared again.

A stronger demonic being, overwhelming those around in its path. There was even a hint that the temperature of the air had dropped somewhat. Fear ran over the citizens’ skin.

That demonic being spoke loudly.

「…Lugis! So you were here! Don’t move, bastard! 」

The head of a giant lion demon beast was chopped off by the dark scarlet sword. Caria Burdnick ran through the people, taking the blood splatter from her opponents on her own body. Lugis spoke happily, as if celebrating a reunion with his lover.

「Oh, look. It’s my enemy. My enemy has come to see me again. 」

Mastigius was smiling as well next to the smiling Lugis. The fact that Caria was here meant that it was highly likely that the Heraldic soldiers were safe to some extent.

Then, the next problem would be the magical devilish beings. They wouldn’t be able to beat them. He realized that the only ones who could defeat magical devilish beings were other magical devilish beings.

「…Lugis. I want to ask you something. What would happen if you faced off against other demons now? Let’s suppose they attacked you. 」

That’s obvious, Lugis said without even a moment of thought. It seemed like he was sure of his words.

「I’ve decided that I’m going to be killed by someone who speaks of justice…So, if those who don’t speak of justice try to kill me, then I’ll kill them instead. 」

  1. This new Lugis is a bit funny… If all magical demonic beings were like him, humanity would be mostly safe at least. In the end he’s not evil at all, contrary to what Rabel said.
