A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 16 – Chapter 487

Chapter 487: The Evil’s Scheme

In the secret meeting place, Caria showed her fangs for the first time in a long time. Fangs existed to hunt prey. And Caria was now showing her fangs to hunt her prey.

Even though her heart was still covered in a faint, muddy haze. Even though she realized that her limbs had lost a frightening amount of strength.

But still, Calia raised her trembling knees.

The situation would certainly get worse if she didn’t do anything. Filaret was captured, and Eldith was bedridden in the royal capital. And Lugis had become a demon.

The worst-case scenario continued to exist. So where was the path to victory?

Naturally, her biggest concern was Lugis’ well-being.

He said he didn’t know her. It would be extremely bad if he had lost his memories of when he was human. Even now, thinking about it made Caria’s fingertips tremble. She even wanted to run to her bed.

But she thought at the same time. What if he had forgotten all of his memories?

If he had lost sight of the other woman, yes, even that particular woman.

…Now was the perfect opportunity to possess him. Surely she could fill his mind with all of herself.

A tingling sensation ran down Caria’s spine. Of course, there was no guarantee that he would conveniently remember only her. Still, it was worth giving a try. There was a chance that it would end in the worst possible outcome, but there was also a chance that she would be able to get the best possible ending.

After all, Caria was the only one who had been given this opportunity. Her shaking silver eyes hardened, and her cheeks twisted. She lightly snapped her fingertips. So what? If he had been destroyed, then all she had to do was rebuild him.

She had said to her soldiers that Lugis had pretended not to know her as part of a scheme. Then, what she had to do was making that scheme real.

…There was no doubt that it steered Caria’s heart.

「Well then, let’s come up with a plan, Oilland. Not for defeat, but for victory. I will do my best to accomplish it. 」

Caria slammed her arm on the table, speaking to the Bolvat sorcerer in front of her, and to the soldiers around her.

Caria’s thoughts and ideas were exactly those of the Giants. Giants ruled over destruction and regeneration. The only personification of this in this world was right here.

And she was directing all her power at just one man. Without any mercy.

「I don’t mind if you want to rescue Mastigius. But I want you to listen to my wish as well. 」

In Rabel’s luxurious bedroom, the magical devilish being Junelva spoke in a voice that seemed to shatter the surrounding splendid furnishings. There was a hint of poison in his breath.

It was a sign of his rage.

「I don’t really get it. What on earth are you doing here? Hey, new demon. You’d better be careful how you answer. 」

Junelva’s tone was the same as always, but everyone could sense that his words were overflowing with anger. There was enough heat to made others fear and run away. His bird-of-prey eyes were wide open, as if glaring at a sworn enemy.

But the demon in front of him answered calmly while sitting on the bed with his legs spread out.

「Hahaha! What’s with that gloomy look on your face, birdy? Why do I need your permission to do something? 」

As he said this, the magical devilish being Lugis had already put his fingers on the magical sword in his waist. His eyes were dark, and he easily hated and despised the being that stood before him. It was as if he was saying that this was his way of being.

The air evaporated. Poison and hatred mixed together, and the space seemed to distort.

Two magical devilish beings were trying to cut each other’s throat. They were completely incompatible with one another. Their very existence was polar opposite.

Just as they were about to start the second massacre, the magical devilish being Rabel finally opened her handsome lips.

「…Stop immediately, you two. It is completely pointless for magical devilish beings to fight each other. We have things we must do. 」

The atmosphere became tense for a moment, and Junelva spoke as if he couldn’t bear it any longer.

「Rabel. There are so many things I don’t understand. Why did you turn someone like him into a magical devilish being? Why did you allow him freedom? He can’t do as he pleases. 」

Rabel replied after a brief moment.

「I have only corrected his fate, Junelva. As a result, he became a magical devilish being. You should know that we, magical devilish beings, do not have the authority to create other magical devilish beings. Please correct your understanding immediately. 」

Rabel turned her gaze at Lugis for a moment. He was dressed in black and purple clothes, and his hand was still on the magical sword.

But he showed no hostility towards Rabel. Besides, Rabel could see that the gears installed inside him were functioning normally. This information was transmitted to her, who was like his heart.

Rabel chuckled to herself although it wasn’t shown on her face. Rabel didn’t understand that this was something close to emotion.

「Besides, the heart has already been treated. Once it stabilizes, it can be transplanted. 」

The heart…Filaret possessed a strong soul and mind. Rabel could praise her for being extraordinary. There was no doubt about it.

She didn’t break, even when her body was repeatedly stripped of its magical power, and she was repeatedly subjected to excruciating pain. For a sorcerer, having her magical power taken away was a huge shock. She must have experienced countless pains, as if her organs were ripped out while she was still alive.

Usually, that would drive a person crazy. Neither the body nor the mind were as strong as people thought. And the mind was a slave to the body. So if the body got oppressed, then the mind would inevitably go awry.

But she still didn’t break. This’s why Rabel judged her as someone extraordinary.

But there was something fatally wrong with her to begin with. There was no other way to explain it.

It was problematic. If the soul didn’t completely submit, the new magical power wouldn’t adapt to the body. It wouldn’t become a mechanism for circulating magical power to the Great Demon Vrilligant.

But that was over, finally. With Lugis transformed into a magical devilish being in front of her eyes, Filaret’s hazy consciousness caught sight of it, and she threw everything away.

He was indeed someone important at the core of Filaret’s heart. Of course, Rabel couldn’t understand such emotion, but that was probably the case after observing the situation.

So there were no problems anymore. Junelva was dissatisfied even after hearing Rabel’s words.

「…But he was once human no matter how much he had changed. We don’t know when he’ll betray us. 」

Junelva glared at Lugis without even trying to hide his suspicious eyes. Lugis shrugged his shoulders, not caring about Junelva’s gaze.

「Hey, hey, betrayal?…That’s something you should say to your friends. 」

In an instant, Junelva’s wings opened. The claws, which easily cut through skin, scraped the air with poison. They were on a precise trajectory that would cut Lugis vertically in half.

But the magical sword made a sound as if it had seen through his action. Tearing away the smell of poison, the magical sword thundered as it pierced the great wing.

…In an instant, the air split. A violent blow relying on sheer strength collided, striking a distorted reverberation.

This continued several times. Rabel spoke again in a quiet voice just as Junelva’s eyes showed murderous intent and Lugis’ eyes began to show hatred. It felt as if she was used to it.

「I have no more words for you. If you are concerned about his defection, then let’s do this. Acknowledge it immediately. 」

Rabel turned her eyes at Lugis and spoke. He seemed surprisingly receptive to the words of someone who had implanted gears in him. He nodded slightly and narrowed his eyes.

「The day after tomorrow, we will carry out the execution of the Sorcerer General, a hero of those humans. Since he rebelled against us, unfortunately, this is the only option. 」

Rabel continued her words. Lugis just listened without any interest or emotion.

…Execute him with your own hands. Understand this immediately.

  1. Well, Lugis seems happier and more free in his demon form. It makes me wish he could retain a bit of that self when he becomes human again (hopefully).
    Thanks for the chapter.
