A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 15 – Chapter 448

Chapter 448: The Giant’s Command

Two days had passed.

The Great Gate of Garoua Maria. It faced the east, sharpening its shielding fangs to meet the Bolvat army as it continued to advance west. The walls were reinforced, the fences were erected, and several positions were set up. Now, our soldiers showed their white breath as they waited.

Still, how could that preparation have a meaning at all? The enemy was a massive army of nearly 40,000. And they were all elite soldiers equipped with magic. Every soldier in Garoua Maria had an ominous feeling.

Their hearts were pounding. They would almost hear the enemy footsteps if they got close to the ground.

Our soldiers had a premonition. The dreadful thing that had been reported by the messengers a few hours ago would soon appear.

A few minutes passed, and the soldiers in front of the gate and those stationed above the gate swallowed their saliva in impatience.

Then, it arrived with the rising sunlight. As if crushing the light that filled the earth.

「…They’re here. They’re here! The Bolvat invaders are here! 」

Many of our soldiers shouted those words. But the words that were spoken were real.

The magical beast soldiers mobilized their massive bodies and roared in the vanguard. The magic armored soldiers dashed across the battlefield with dazzling demeanor, followed by the elite soldiers.

They were undoubtedly the forerunners of a nation. They were not mercenaries, or the kind of guards used to protect the city-states. They were a group that excelled not in self-defense, but in killing and eating others.

The Bolvat magic army.

「Lady Caria! The enemy, they’re here, they’ll be reaching the gate soon…! 」

One of the unit lieutenants reported to Caria, the commander in charge. She knew very well that his voice sounded desperately anxious.

It couldn’t be helped. No matter how prepared they were, their hearts would tell a different story when faced with a large army. A battle was about to begin. The soldiers’ lives were at stake. They had to kill the enemy, or their allies would be killed, including themselves. Naturally, their mouths were dry, and they felt a tingling tremor down their spine and fingertips.

Nevertheless, the unit lieutenant forgot the tingling and stared in amazement when he saw his commander’s profile.

Caria Burdnick’s cheeks relaxed as if she were looking at something precious. No, one could even say she was gazing.

With her silver hair blowing in the wind, Caria looked down at the enemy army from the castle gate. She sighed, unknowingly. She covered her mouth to hide her smile.

For the Gharast Kingdom, the Bolvat Dynasty was also a potential enemy. Caria had studied the nature of their military units and actions well.

According to that study, the Bolvat army was not very good at marching in an orderly fashion due to the existence of a wide variety of military units. There were also times when soldiers would act on their own accord.

But the march before her was more beautiful than any other army recorded in the past. The speed of their march was so fast that it seemed strange. It looked like the soldiers’ morale was high up, as if they had already won. The march was so orderly that it seemed like a military parade.

It was simply wonderful. Caria thought that anyone who was involved in the military would want to lead soldiers like that at least once.

The Sorcerer General of the Bolvat Dynasty was named Mastigius La Volgograd. Although she had never met him, Caria was convinced that he was a general with great leadership skills.

And at the same time, she thought that it was a good thing that Filaret wasn’t here. Caria felt sympathetic towards Filaret, not wanting her to see her father die.

「…Lady Caria, the enemy…」

The lieutenant’s words suddenly brought Caria back to her senses. Her silver eyes lit up and she spoke with a strong tone.

「Yes. I can see the length of their march. It won’t be just from the front. Send a message to the other side to be on high alert. And stay back. 」

Unable to understand what she was saying, the lieutenant tilted his stern face and took a step back. At the same time, Caria raised her great sword. The black sword shimmered mysteriously in the sunlight. The black seemed to be a crucible of chaos, and the scarlet hue clung to it, as if controlling it.

The lieutenant and all the soldiers present gasped at this sight. They didn’t know what it was, but it looked too demonic. It didn’t seem human at all. First of all, the great sword Caria was wielding was not something a human would wield.

The lieutenant had heard it before.

The upper ranks of the Heraldic Order, especially the Three Maidens who followed the hero, all had powers beyond human comprehension. They were just like myths.

As Caria raised her great sword, a ray of light fell on the Bolvat army. It fell from the sky, roaring bravely like lightning, telling them that it was the ruler of the sky.

This was the main reason why cities fell so quickly. Mastigius’ jaws were open as if the essence of magic had turned into a thunderbolt and was about to swallow Garoua Maria as well.

To the soldiers, it was unmistakably the dragon of legends. It roared with thunder that only a god could control. It attacked like a thunderbolt.

Many felt a premonition of death in front of that lightning. The sight was too cruel for humans to resist.

The demonic thunder roared and approached the gates of Garoua Maria. The great magic turned into a thunder dragon that devoured the soldiers and roared to pierce the gates.

However, to the giant, a dragon was nothing more than a big lizard.

「…Sorry, but there’s a guy behind me that needs his shield. I won’t let anyone through. 」

Caria sighed, grinning her teeth as she smiled in a devilish way. The source sleeping inside her pulsated and responded to her voice.

The source was a person’s supreme desire, an endless wish. It was close to instinct, originally bound by the chains of reason.

It screamed to be stronger than anyone else. That fundamental desire broke down chains and locks, distorting even the laws of the world. Only then could the source be born.

Caria raised her dark scarlet sword and fixed her eyes on the Thunder Dragon. The great sword creaked in the surrounding space, and after a moment it roared through the sky.

「My ancestor, the King of the Giants. With the power of your great deeds, let me smash the dragon to the earth…by unlocking the Original Text, the Giant’s Myth “Flimslat”. 」

After a moment, the dark scarlet was swung with force. The ancient myth itself became a flash of light as it faced the roaring thunder.

It was exactly a reproduction of the Age of the Gods, when giants and dragons still existed on this earth. The dragon, transformed into thunder, opened its jaws to crush the giant’s destructive blow.

The collision and the next moment seemed eternal. There was an impact so strong that it seemed as if the heavens were torn apart, and the snow-capped sky was blown away.

And yet. These two were nothing more than myths, imitations used by humans. It was just the recreation of an history that had continued since ancient times.

Humans couldn’t defeat gods. The one who defeated gods was god himself, no matter when.

The collapse came naturally. The dark flash turned into a torrent, consuming the thunder, and dominated the sky.

The giants were the height of arrogance, but they also had the power to swallow it. The dark flash roared wildly as it consumed a corner of Bolvat’s army.

The Bolvat soldiers, and even the Garoua Maria soldiers, were captivated by this scene. Something they would never have experienced in their lifetime was happening right before their eyes. The shock made their hearts pound violently, and their thoughts became rigid.

In that moment, they no longer knew what was right and what was evil.

「…Go now. Show them which side is being hunting and which side is being eaten, my brave warriors!」

The giant roared a command while handling the dark scarlet sword as if it were a part of her body. Only that command filled the empty hearts of the soldiers.

Before their eyes stood the Bolvat army, with part of their formation gone and in a pitiful state of disarray.

This was undoubtedly a golden opportunity. There was no way they would miss it. The Garoua Maria soldiers roared and ran forward, bravely charging with great momentum. Even if it was just a small gap, they now had the chance to shatter the enemy.

With this, they would be able to eat a few of the Bolvat army soldiers. After giving that command, Caria sat down on the spot.

Large drops of sweat covered her forehead. Every joint in her body creaked. There was a feeling that the blood flowing throughout her body had gone numb. Her throat was extremely hot.

And yet, in her thoughts, Caria was only concerned about one man. It felt as if her own blood took advantage of her actions.

Her lips felt strangely lonely. Caria exhaled a lustrous sigh as she called that man’s name.

The Demon War. The fiercest of all battles, the defense of Garoua Maria, marked the beginning of that war.
