A Wish To Grab Happiness – Volume 14 – Chapter 402

Chapter 402: Jumping in the Sky

Outside the royal palace. Filaret La Volgograd was jumping through the sky, with the royal palace surrounded by the breath of fire. She was actually jumping in the air. She ran through the city, running from roof to roof of private houses.

Of course, there was no way that Filaret could perform such a feat with her own physical ability. Therefore, she concentrated her magical power into her legs at the moment of jumping, enabling her to jump high as if she was flying. She did it continuously.

This was one of the outlandish magic theories that Filaret once dreamed about. If this became possible for everyone, the scope of human activity would dramatically increase.

However, Filaret realized there was a difference between theory and practice. She looked around while pressing her molars painfully.

Gathering magical power at her feet was easy. However, discharging it on a small scale to obtain the propulsion required, demanded extremely precise control of magical power.

She could fall to her death if she made a bad move. If she did it continuously, her brain would no longer be able to keep up with useless thoughts. Her whole brain felt hot, and her heart was beating loudly.

Filaret’s expression distorted from the excessive heat, and she gasped for a deep breath. Her throat felt like it was on fire, and images of her legs exploding flashed through her mind over and over again.

But she couldn’t stop. She was entrusted with external support for Lugis and Eldith who were facing the magical devilish being.

She had to stop the other one from claiming the sky as her own.

「Wait! Come down, okay!? What are you planning to do with that child’s body? 」

As she flew through the sky, raising her altitude, Filaret reached out to touch the white hair. No matter how much she tried to spread her fingers, she couldn’t seem to reach her figure.

Filaret jumped and landed several times, but each time her leg bones and brain marrow seemed to be damaged.

What was more frightening was the fact that she was easily flying around at such a high altitude. How much magical power and control did she need to operate such power? Filaret hated imagining it. For humans, the sky was still something far away.

The white-haired girl said, looking listlessly at the black hair below her eyes. Based on her voice’s tone, it seemed that the person who was in control of the body was Jewel Bar Agathos.

「You’re still here. Even though you can’t even reach me, you never get tired of trying. I don’t like that kind of stubbornness in people. After all, it’s not beautiful to do something pointless. I’m trying my best to do something relevant. If you’re going to do something, do something meaningful. I already said that this child’s body is mine. You people are the ones who try to find value in something that is impossible and worthless. It’s a bad habit.」

Agathos muttered as if she was annoyed and averted her gaze from Filaret again. From the bottom of her heart, she said that she had no interest in Filaret’s movements. It was an act of arrogance by looking down on the earth from high above.

Those words were true for Agathos.

Human civilization’s technological level and magical mechanisms were far from the magical devilish beings’ abilities. Humans’ physique was weak, and they couldn’t do much. Despite this, they were obsessed with small things and were fighting over each other’s flesh. They were pointless, worthless people. At least, that were the kind of people Agathos knew. She had no intention of changing that perception any time soon.

…However, for the person called Filaret, those remarks were unacceptable.

Filaret’s eyes widened enough to see the whites of her eyes. Then, she contorted her cheeks, baring her teeth. Filaret could feel the blood flow throughout her body making a noise and speeding up.

Impossible…meaningless, worthless. What familiar words! Filaret thought those words were often uttered by people who pretended to be knowledgeable and wise.

People who talked about it were invariably not even facing the impossibility. And yet, they made mocking faces and sneered at those they faced.

They didn’t know how desperate the others were for having been judged as meaningless and worthless.

Those who couldn’t find value for themselves shouldn’t be arrogant. How could they know if others had worth or not?

Unbeknownst to her, Filaret poured magical power into the tips of her toes. One or two of her blood vessels seemed to boil and burst from the amount of magical power. Filaret was starting to gradually lose sensation in her toes. But it didn’t matter.

A cold wind caressed her cheeks. That wind soon caught the heat that Filaret was emitting. Her dark eyes just stared at the arrogance that flew through the air.

Filaret slowly bent her slender legs. She threw away even her previous control and poured magical power into her feet, causing them to explode.

A bursting sound echoed around Filaret’s body. The cold wind tore her ears and dried her throat. Still, she had to jump even higher. Higher, and higher.

No matter what happened, Filaret had no intention of denying the fact that she was looking forward to turning lead into gold. Lugis had always reached out to do what others thought was impossible. Would he give up upon facing one hurdle? The answer was no.

Filaret reached out with her nearly torn fingers and grabbed the white-haired girl’s slender arm in a frenzy. The white eyes widened as she could feel her body shaking slightly.

After a moment, Agathos opened her mouth.

「…What’s wrong with you? Why are you so stubborn? Let go of me. Do you want me to shoot you down? I’m just allowing you to live out of mercy. You saved this child’s life. This is the only time I’ll show you mercy. Come on, let go of me now.」

Agathos pouted her lips and told Filaret to let her go. The reason why her words and actions seemed a little childish may be due to her current physical state.

Filaret clung to Agathos’ small body with both of her hands. Her behavior was as if she were gently holding that girl in her arms. Her words were mixed with slightly shaky breaths.

「I refuse. I’ll never let you go. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t bend when I decide to do something unexpectedly. I don’t mind if you shoot me down, but in that case, you won’t be unharmed either, am I right?」

Agathos’ expression distorted in disgust at Filaret’s words, and her emotions disappeared for a moment. Next, a slight sense of impatience began to emerge. Agathos moved her tongue and opened her mouth.

「Then be careful not to fall, Filaret. Let me tell you this, I’m someone who doesn’t make adjustments. Even if you fall, I won’t save you.」

After saying that, Agathos glared at the royal palace. In the back, the vortex of magical power was reflected in her eyes.

Inside the hidden quarters where only a few soldiers remained. The silver eyes narrowed as if unsure of her situation.

She closed the messily written note that had been left by her bedside with her trembling fingers and took a few breaths. Caria noticed that her lips were strangely curved.

“I’m calm, very, very calm.”

Caria said that to herself, several times over. If she didn’t, she would tear up the note in her hands. That was not possible. This note was probably his. If someone who didn’t even know how to pick up a pen tried his best to leave it written, then it would be a waste to tear it up and throw it away.

However, Caria was unable to understand anything about the contents of the note. What did he mean to get medical treatment? Was it because of her injury?

It was true that she had suffered a defeat, and her limbs had been seriously injured. But that’s it. Just because she needed to rest didn’t mean she couldn’t move.

Didn’t she just tell him? Even if the enemy was a magical devilish being, she’d definitely kill it.

Without realizing it, Caria felt her nails digging into her palm. Blood was starting to drip from the tip of her fist. But she couldn’t hold back.

“I’m calm. Yes, I’m calm…”

She said that over and over again. She clearly understood. As for Lugis, he had been worrying about her unnecessarily and left her behind. Caria trusted Lugis to the extent that she could see his actions, and she understood. Their relationship was no longer trivial.

However, the emotions that washed over her one after another like a tsunami said otherwise. Fury that swallowed up Caria’s reason licked her skin.

If it was for her own sake, she’d sleep and rest in order to heal her injuries. However, if it was for him, she’d want to show him a good side, even if her limbs were bent and torn.

Even more so when she ended up showing him her own ugliness in defeat. She wasn’t even given a chance to decide and was told to just lie in bed.

“…Ah, what kind of humiliation do you want to inflict on me, a giant?”

Caria opened her silver eyes with tears in her eyes and picked up the dark scarlet sword. It was already in her hand, as if it were part of her skin. It was the myth of giants that allowed her to become one with the sword. One could even call it Caria’s Original Text.

Caria had noticed that her sense of self had begun to shift from that of a human to that of a giant. She knew it was not good. She understood that she was in bad shape. But she couldn’t hold it in anymore. She already accepted her current body.

There was another feeling that grew in proportion to that.

She felt that the pure love that was in her heart was acting violently. And it was getting bigger day by day.

But wasn’t that good? Why should she hold back? Retreating didn’t suit a giant.

Lugis should already understand her own feelings. If that was the case, why not push forward? He’d just have to tolerate her little brute force. Not once nor twice.

While letting out a hot breath, Caria made a decision. A decision that she wouldn’t have made if she had been her former self.

“…Then, for that reason, let’s do it again. But Lugis. There’s no place for you to escape anymore.”

Caria left the dormitory with the dark scarlet in her hand. There was no one who could stop her.

  1. What a chapter to start the years. Although Lugis might actually get dried or stabbed soon enough since Caria at the end looked more like a final boss than the controller
